United States President Donald Trump is often seen as someone who enjoys being in the centre of attention. A similar moment was witnessed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 final ceremony, where he tried his best to remain in the frame and was even able to grab the spotlight while Spain celebrated their title triumph on the podium.
After handing over the FIFA World Cup 2026 trophy to Spain’s captain Rodri Hernández, it appeared like Trump deliberately took a while to move out of the camera view. At first, the US President was subtly nudged to exit the frame by Rodri, but the situation led to the point that even FIFA President Gianni Infantino had to step in and guide him away.
Trump sparks awkwardness at Spain’s World Cup celebrations
The incident turned quite awkward, as it apparently seemed that Trump wanted to be a part of the World Cup 2026 final celebrations on the podium alongside the Spanish football team. Rodri, in fact, looked quite uncomfortable with his presence and nudged him to walk away from the area.

Trump, however, still took longer than expected to move aside, delaying Spain’s celebrations on the podium. In the end, Gianni Infantino decided to hold him by his arm and escort him to the side. Even then, Trump stood right next to the last Spanish player, refusing to completely move out of the camera frame

No handshake between Christian Romero and Trump
In another video, no formal handshake took place between Argentina defender Christian Romero and Donald Trump. This incident has also sparked widespread discussion on social media. Trump and FIFA President Infantino were also met with resounding boos as they entered the field on Sunday, July 19, for the presentation ceremony following Spain’s World Cup win.
During the game, the US President sat next to Infantino, watching Spain defeat holders Argentina 1-0 before a star-studded audience of 80,000 people at the venue outside New York.
