Philippines Earthquake: Several structures collapsed and turned to debris after a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines on Monday, June 8, leading to widespread evacuations across the region. Officials in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan warned of possible tsunami waves after a quake off Mindanao, according to reports.

Videos circulating online showed dramatic visuals of buildings crumbling as strong tremors jolted parts of the Philippines’ Mindanao island. One video captured outside a school campus showed students gathered in an open field as a nearby structure looked as though it was collapsing amid the shaking.

Massive buildings collapse, reduced to rubble

Several buildings were reduced to rubble as the ground shook violently during the earthquake that hit the region. According to reports, a part of a building in General Santos City collapsed due to the tremor. While school students were moved to safer locations, hospitals evacuated patients as a precautionary measure.
