The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected a report claiming that it had commenced grassroots mobilisation in support of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the reported collaboration with the Allied Peoples Movement was neither authorised nor endorsed by its leadership in Ekiti State.
In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the state PDP chairman, Lanre Omolase, described the report as false and fictitious, accusing its promoters of attempting to create confusion within the party.
Omolase said the Ekiti PDP had no affiliation with the APM or any purported mobilisation campaign for Makinde.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ekiti State PDP, under my leadership, hereby distances itself completely from both the Allied Peoples Movement and any purported presidential mobilisation project for Governor Seyi Makinde,” he said.
He added that no such mobilisation had been authorised, inaugurated or carried out by the recognised leadership of the party in the state.
The chairman also criticised Makinde, accusing the governor of political betrayal and insisting that the Ekiti PDP would not support what he described as “treachery.”
“Most importantly, Governor Seyi Makinde has never stopped to demonstrate treachery, and we in the PDP in Ekiti State will not have anything to do with such character who is only stable in betrayal,” Omolase said.
The party urged its members, supporters and the public to disregard the publication and reject any political claim purportedly issued on behalf of the Ekiti PDP without approval from its recognised leadership.
It also warned individuals and groups against using the party’s name, structure or authority to promote personal political interests.
According to the party, only duly authorised organs and spokespersons are empowered to communicate its official positions.
The Ekiti PDP further urged media organisations and members of the public to verify political claims before attributing them to the party, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
