Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has claimed that he recently met Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not appeared in public since taking over leadership after the death of his father, Ali Khamenei.
The statement has once again sparked global interest and speculation over Mojtaba Khamenei’s health, location, and role in Iran’s military and political decisions during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
In a video message aired on Iranian state television, President Pezeshkian said he was impressed by Mojtaba Khamenei’s “vision” and his “humble and sincere approach.” However, the Iranian president did not reveal where or when the meeting took place.
Mojtaba Khamenei missing from public view
Mojtaba Khamenei has remained completely absent from public life since February 28, when the conflict between Iran, the US, and Israel escalated with large-scale airstrikes on Iranian targets.
During the attacks, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed, leading to Mojtaba Khamenei’s appointment as the new head of the Islamic Republic.
Since then, rumours about his health and whereabouts have spread widely online and in international media reports. Several reports claimed that Mojtaba was injured in the strikes that targeted Iranian leadership facilities.
Iranian officials have repeatedly denied claims that the Supreme Leader is critically ill or unable to lead the country.
Iranian officials say Mojtaba survived airstrike
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, an Iranian official identified as Qomi confirmed that Mojtaba Khamenei was inside a building targeted during the conflict.
The official claimed that Mojtaba survived because he had stepped into the courtyard only minutes before the building was destroyed in an airstrike.
Iranian authorities insist that the Supreme Leader is in “perfect health” and is actively managing state affairs despite staying away from public appearances.
Why is the US unable to trace Mojtaba Khamenei’s location?
Reports citing American intelligence sources claim that Mojtaba Khamenei has adopted extreme security measures to avoid detection by the US or Israel.
According to these reports, he is avoiding all electronic devices, including mobile phones and computers, fearing that his location could be tracked electronically.
Instead, he is reportedly communicating only through trusted messengers and face-to-face meetings with a limited inner circle.
Intelligence sources believe these precautions are among the main reasons the United States has been unable to confirm his exact location.
Even senior officials from Iran’s government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are reportedly avoiding direct visits due to fears that foreign intelligence agencies could monitor movements around him.
