Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has jokingly explained why he is unfamiliar with some popular Nigerian entertainers, including Carter Efe, Poco Lee and Don Jazzy.
Obasanjo made the playful remarks while featuring on comedian Isbae U’s popular podcast, Curiosity Made Me Ask, which aired on Saturday, September 19.
During the light-hearted exchange, Isbae U, whose real name is Ridwan Abidemi Adebayo, tested the former president’s knowledge of some prominent figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, asking if he knew Carter Efe, Poco Lee and Don Jazzy.
Obasanjo responded that he did not know the personalities mentioned.
“Do you know Carter Efe?” the comedian asked.
“I don’t know,” Obasanjo replied.

“No,” the former president responded.
“Do you know Don Jazzy?”
“Ha,” Obasanjo replied, appearing surprised by the question.
The former president then jokingly contrasted the people he knows with those familiar to the comedian.
“So, you know people that… That I don’t know,” he said.
When Isbae U suggested that the entertainers might know Obasanjo even if he did not know them, the former president jokingly responded: “Ah, well, maybe because they no be Important people, that’s why. That’s why the people you know, I don’t know.”
Obasanjo then cited his familiarity with former British monarch Queen Elizabeth II as an example, saying he had personally received her in Nigeria.
“Now I tell you, I know Queen Elizabeth. You say you don’t know Queen Elizabeth,” he said.
The former president also mentioned King Charles III, saying his relationship with the British monarch went beyond simply knowing his name.
“Do you know King Charles?” Obasanjo asked.
“I’ve heard of him,” the comedian replied.
“I know him,” Obasanjo said, adding that King Charles had received him at his farm in Wales.
The exchange came after a discussion in which Isbae U boasted about the international reach of his show and videos, while Obasanjo teased him for having an audience abroad without travelling to the United Kingdom or United States.
