Popular Kannywood actress Nafisa Abdullahi has said she sees no reason to get married if marriage means becoming “a slave” in another person’s house, arguing that many women are unhappy in their marriages and receive little benefit from the institution.
Speaking in a video that has gone viral on social media, the actress claimed that many men marry not because it is a religious obligation or out of love, but because they want someone to cook, wash their clothes, bear children, and take care of the home.
“Many men are not getting married because it is Sunnah. They see it as a way to get a woman who will cook for them, wash their clothes, give birth to their children, take care of the children, and do everything to impress them,” she said.

Nafisa further alleged that many married women regret getting married, saying she personally knows several women who are unhappy in their relationships.
According to her, women often shoulder most of the responsibilities in marriage without enjoying corresponding benefits, adding that some wives are treated more like servants than partners.
Questioning why she should subject herself to such an arrangement, the actress asked: “Why should I waste my time to go and be a slave in someone’s house?”
The remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users supporting her views on gender roles and marital expectations, while others argued that her comments do not reflect the experiences of many successful marriages.
