The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent political moves, accusing him of inconsistency and weak leadership.
Wike made the remarks on Wednesday during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, where he questioned Obi’s ability to manage internal party challenges.
According to the minister, Obi’s movement across different political platforms reflects opportunism rather than principled leadership.
He cited Obi’s previous affiliations with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party, arguing that he failed to strengthen each party before moving on.
“Leadership is about standing up to challenges and resolving crises. Obi has not demonstrated that capacity,” Wike said.
He further alleged that Obi’s recent political decisions follow a pattern of exiting parties during periods of internal crisis rather than addressing them.
Wike also referenced reactions to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on a leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), noting what he described as contradictions in statements from Obi and his supporters.
The FCT minister maintained that consistent leadership requires stability and the ability to manage internal party conflicts, rather than shifting allegiance.
The comments come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections, with analysts closely watching movements among key political figures.
