A pregnant woman went into labour unexpectedly at the busy Gbagi market in Ibadan, Oyo State, and ended up giving birth to a baby boy right there on the premises.
The incident happened on Monday evening. The woman had gone to the market to shop for items needed for her baby when she suddenly started feeling contractions.
Eyewitnesses said traders and market women nearby rushed to help her once they realised what was happening, quickly turning one of the shops into a makeshift delivery space.
With their support, she was able to put to bed safely, delivering a baby boy before there was time to get her to a hospital.
The sudden birth drew a crowd, as shoppers and traders in the market gathered around once word of what had happened began to circulate.
People who witnessed the event praised the market women for acting quickly and staying composed under pressure, saying their prompt intervention played a key role in ensuring the delivery went smoothly.
Both mother and child were reported to be doing well after the birth.
