As part of events commemorating World Asthma Day 2026, the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Osun State Directorate, has advocated for fair access to anti-inflammatory inhalers.
According to the organization, the celebration is in line with international initiatives to increase asthma awareness and facilitate access to necessary treatment for those who have the illness.
The subject for this year’s May 5th event is “Access to Anti-Inflammatory Inhalers for Everyone with Asthma – Still an Urgent Need.”
Asthma is a major public health issue that affects millions of people worldwide, according to Adebiyi Adefarasin Stephen, the Osun State Director of NOA, who spoke at the occasion.
“The condition inflames and narrows the airways, leading to breathing difficulties and, if not properly managed, death,” he clarified.
“Early diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and continued public awareness can prevent many asthma-related complications and deaths.”
Osun State citizens were advised by Adebiyi to identify early symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, and chronic coughing.
Additionally, he counseled people to get medical help as soon as symptoms appeared and to closely follow recommended treatments, including using inhalers correctly.
The director of NOA “encouraged residents to avoid common triggers that could worsen asthma conditions, such as dust, smoke, pollution, and allergens.”
He urged legislators, community leaders, and medical professionals to “prioritize making asthma care affordable and accessible, particularly for vulnerable populations.”
“Every breath counts.” We can save lives and enhance quality of life by working together to raise awareness, prevent disease, and provide access to appropriate treatment.
