Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday reaffirmed Beijing’s “unshakeable” commitment to “resolving the Taiwan question” and achieving national reunification.
“Resolving the Taiwan question and realising China’s complete reunification is a historic mission and an unshakable commitment for the Communist Party of China (CPC),” Xi was quoted as saying by state-run Xinhua News Agency at a ceremony marking the party’s 105th founding anniversary.
Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, vowed to take “resolute actions” against supporters of “Taiwan independence,” oppose external interference and advance reunification.

China considers Taiwan a breakaway province, while Taipei maintains that it is sovereign and independent.
Xi also said maintaining long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao was essential to achieving national rejuvenation.
Calling for efforts to “resolutely” safeguard China’s sovereignty, security and development interests, Xi stressed the need to uphold the Communist Party’s absolute leadership over the armed forces.
