Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, has urged Muslim faithful to imbibe the Eid-el-Kabir lesson of compassion, sharing and selflessness, to promote peaceful coexistence in the society.
Yahaya also urged the Muslims to imbibe the virtues of sacrifice, love, unity and obedience as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim and upheld by Prophet Muhammad.
He said this in a message to mark the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, on Wednesday in Gombe.
Yahaya stressed the need for continued prayers for peace, prosperity and sustainable development in the state and Nigeria, especially amid the prevailing security, social and economic challenges.
“Peace and stability currently enjoyed in Gombe State are products of the spirit of unity, tolerance and understanding nurtured among the people over the years,” he said.
Yahaya, who is also the Chairman of the Northern State Governors’ Forum, warned against allowing political activities to overshadow the spiritual significance and lessons of the Eid celebration.
He said the period should serve as a reminder of compassion, obedience to Almighty Allah and love for one another rather than unhealthy political rivalry and division.
The governor commended traditional rulers, religious and community leaders, and the people of the state for their support of the government’s policies and programmes.
Yahaya reiterated commitment to people-oriented policies and programmes, to fast-track sustainable social and economic development of the state.
He urged residents of the state to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, to ensured protection of lives and properties.
On the onset of rainy season, Yahaya advised residents to keep their environments clean, clear drains, and avoid flood-prone areas to minimise flooding, and prayed for steady rainfall and bumper harvest
Meanwhile, Gov. Inuwa Yahaya on Wednesday joined the Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu III, and Muslim faithful to observe the Eid-el-Kabir congregational prayer.
The prayer, held at the Gombe Central Eid ground, was led by the Deputy Chief Imam of Gombe, Aliyu Hammari.
Thousands of Muslim faithful including government officials, lawmakers, entrepreneurs and community leaders attended the prayer. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
