The Yobe State Police Command has flagged growing concerns over the rising use of unregistered vehicles, obscured number plates, and unauthorized tinted glass, tools that criminal elements frequently exploit to carry out offences, including drug tr@fficking.
In response, the Command has stepped up enforcement, impounding 67 vehicles found in breach of traffic and security regulations across the state so far.
A statement released on Thursday, signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, explained that the crackdown is aimed at vehicles without valid registration, those with covered, faded, or obscured number plates, and vehicles fitted with tinted glass but lacking the required permits.
The Command noted that such violations create serious security risks, since unregistered vehicles and concealed identities are commonly used to facilitate criminal activity.
It cautioned all vehicle owners and motorists to properly register their vehicles, ensure number plates are clearly visible and genuine, and secure the necessary permits before installing tinted glass.
It warned that any vehicle found violating these rules will be seized, with offenders facing prosecution under the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kamfani Jibrin, has also instructed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to keep up the enforcement drive, emphasizing that officers must remain professional, respect citizens’ rights, and enforce zero tolerance for extortion throughout the exercise.
The CP called on residents to comply with vehicle registration and traffic rules, noting that the exercise is intended to boost public safety and curb crime.
