In a significant political development, critical stakeholders from Yobe State have officially endorsed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, as the Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections. This endorsement came after a series of extensive consultations held statewide, aimed at preparing for the upcoming presidential primary scheduled for May 25 and 26, 2026.
The stakeholders’ unanimous decision reflects a comprehensive assessment of various presidential aspirants, taking into consideration their individual capacities, national acceptability, and their potential to effectively challenge the ruling party’s candidate in the forthcoming elections.
The resolution, articulated in an official statement, emphasizes three pivotal reasons for the endorsement:
“Atiku Abubakar’s long-standing commitment to national development is highlighted, showcasing his extensive experience in both public and private sectors. His history is marked by a clear record of competence and integrity, making him a reliable choice for voters seeking effective leadership.”
“Abubakar is recognized for his ability to unite various regions across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. His wide-reaching support positions him as a strong candidate capable of bringing together a fragmented electorate at a time when national cohesion is paramount”.
“With a wealth of experience in governance and economic management, Abubakar is portrayed as the candidate equipped to confront Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic and security challenges. His leadership experience is viewed as essential for navigating the complexities that the nation currently faces”.
The Yobe State Chapter of the ADC called upon its members nationwide, emphasizing that the upcoming elections present a crucial opportunity to unseat an incumbent government characterized by a lack of tolerance and allegations of state capture of public institutions. The chapter firmly believes that Atiku Abubakar represents a credible and capable alternative to ensure a brighter future for Nigeria.
The endorsement was signed by key ADC leaders, including Adamu Maina Waziri, the State Party Leader; Alhaji Umar Kalli, the State Party Chairman; and Kassim Gana Gaidam, the gubernatorial candidate representing all ADC candidates.
As the political landscape heats up in the lead-up to the primaries, the endorsement of Atiku Abubakar signifies a concerted effort among Yobe State stakeholders to galvanize support for a candidate they believe can deliver the change Nigeria desperately needs.
