A young lady has been compelled to retrieve refuse she illegally disposed of into a roadside drainage gutter after two men confronted her over the act, in a video that has drawn widespread attention and discussion on social media.
The footage, shared by DailyViewGh, shows the woman on her knees reaching into a drainage opening to retrieve the waste she had dumped, before standing up holding the retrieved rubbish, visibly soiled material pulled from the blocked drain as she stood beside the gutter on what appears to be a busy road.
The incident has resonated strongly online, with many Ghanaians applauding the intervention of the two men who confronted the woman and insisting she take responsibility for her actions rather than walking away.
Indiscriminate waste disposal into gutters and drains is a persistent problem across Ghanaian communities and a major contributing factor to the flooding that regularly inundates homes, roads and institutions including the University of Cape Coast, which was itself submerged this week during the rainy season.
The video has been praised by many as an example of citizen-led environmental accountability.
