Zamfara Under Fire: Nigerian Army Crushes Terror Hideouts as Gun Battle Forces Militant Retreat

Troops of the Nigerian Army launched a coordinated offensive in Shinkafi Local Government Area, targeting terrorist strongholds across multiple villages, according to security expert Zagazola Makama.

In the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division carried out an offensive operation against suspected terrorists in cooperation with the 1 Brigade Combat Team and Tactical Combat Support components.

This was said in a statement that Zagazola Makama, a security and counter-insurgency specialist in the Lake Chad region, posted on X.

He claims that the operation, which started on May 4 at around 9:00 a.m., targeted known terrorist enclaves in the villages of Kamara, Dan Gwandi, Manawa, and Katsira.

He revealed that a gunfight broke out between the army and the militants at Katsira village during the operation. The offensive resulted in the deaths of several terrorists.

According to the security expert, three soldiers were shot during the confrontation and are still being treated.

However, under persistent military pressure, the terrorists were compelled to leave the region and flee towards the Fakai high ground.

He said, “While efforts are ongoing to dislodge the fleeing elements and deny them freedom of movement, troops are maintaining dominance in the general area.”
