At least 17 members of the House of Representatives have dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that the development was made known during plenary on Tuesday, when the Speaker, Tajudeen Abass read out notices of defection from the affected lawmakers on the floor of the House.
He also announced was the defection of Leke Abejide from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Those who defected to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande and Munachim Umezuruike.
Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene and Abdulhakeem Ado.
In other news, senator representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly, Victor Umeh, has claimed that signs of imbalance visible within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition led to the exit of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, from the party.
NewsWatch Nigeria recalls that Peter Obi, alongside the former Governor of Kano State, recently dumped the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an interview on ARISE Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme on Monday, Umeh asserted that there were signs Peter Obi would not emerge as the presidential candidate of the ADC.
