Renowned media entrepreneur and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed reports claiming that he plans to run as a vice-presidential candidate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 general elections.
Naijaonpoint reports that Momodu, in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, April 30, described the claim as false and said he had no intention of contesting any election.
The publisher said …er being circulated on social media was a distraction and urged his friends, supporters and party members to disregard it.
Momodu Denies VP Ambition
Reacting to …er, Momodu said he initially treated it as a joke when it was sent to him by a friend.
He said, “When I first received this poster from a friend, I dismissed it as a joke designed to distract us… I will be most grateful if my friends and party members can do me the honour of ignoring this joke.”
Momodu added that he had no plan to run for any political office again, stressing that his current focus was to support efforts by opposition parties to form a strong coalition ahead of the next general elections.
He stated, “I’m not running for any race again. I’m interested in humbly supporting the coalition of political parties, to work together and oust the incompetent APC government.”
The former presidential aspirant said he would rather support candidates within the African Democratic Congress, adding that the party had capable leaders who could contest elective positions.
According to him, there are “more than enough leaders” in the ADC who are competent and prepared to offer leadership.
Momodu said his role would be to support the party and contribute to coalition-building within the opposition, rather than seek elective office.
Momodu also criticised what he described as the “bullying” of Atiku, noting that Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had previously run alongside the former Vice President in the 2019 election.
He urged political actors and supporters to exercise restraint in their public comments and avoid abusive rhetoric across party lines.
The publisher also cautioned against personal attacks on President Bola Tinubu, saying political disagreements should not become a reason for insults or reckless statements.
Momodu maintained that he would support whoever emerges as the candidate of his party, adding that his main concern remained the strengthening of opposition forces ahead of 2027.
