A Pro-Barau group under the aegis of Kano State Coalition for Good Governance has advocated for the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin’s continued representation in the Senate.
The Chairman of the coalition, Mukhar Tukur-Gadanya, who made the call at a press conference on Wednesday in Kano, disclosed that the group was aware of plans to thwart Barau’s re-election.
Tukur-Gadanya alleged that there were plots by some disgruntled elements to truncate Barau’s re-election bid.
According to him, people of the Kano North Senatorial district were firmly behind the 2027 re-election bid of the lawmaker and will ensure it succeeds.
He said the Barau had distinguished himself with his performances and good representation of the people of his constituency.
“Senator Barau has transformed legislative representation to people-oriented laws, impactful empowerment programmes and numerous infrastructural and human development initiatives.
“To his credit, he has sponsored and co-sponsored nearly 50 bills aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
“Equally, in terms of projects and interventions, his achievements are remarkable, which include sponsorship of the bill for the establishment of the North West Development Commission (NWDC).”

The group said Barau also sponsored the bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, and the upgrading of Federal College of Education (FCE) Kano to a University.
“Barau also influenced the reconstruction of roads, schools, hospitals, and boreholes; installation of solar streetlights, provision of tertiary education scholarships to Kano indigenes within and outside Nigeria, among others.
“These achievements and a host of others not mentioned explained why the people of Kano North Senatorial District strongly support and demand the continuity of his representation in the Senate beyond 2027.

“Unfortunately, a particular failed politician has been contracted by a certain politician outside Kano State to use dubious means of pretending to challenge DSP in 2027 elections in order to destabilise the political acceptance of DSP as the 2027 general elections draw near.
“We have credible information that substantial resources have been mobilised for this effort; nonetheless, we are confident that such efforts will fail, as Senator Barau enjoys overwhelming support from the people of Kano North.”
The group urged all individuals involved in such a plot to desist immediately and allow the democratic will of the people to prevail.
It extended its appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his confidence in Barau and the people of Kano State. (NAN)
