The Kano Emirate Council has approved the appointment of retired Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar as the Sarkin Fulanin Ja’idanawa, with effect from April 22, 2026.
The appointment was conveyed in an official letter dated April 22, 2026, signed by Aliyu Ibrahim Ahmed, the Matawallen Kano and Senior Councillor of the council.
The letter, issued from the council’s secretariat in Kano, stated that the approval was granted by the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
SolaceBase reports that the appointment was sequel to the demise of the previous Sarkin Fulanin Ja’idanawa on April 14th, 2026.

According to the letter, the Emir expressed confidence in the appointee’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to the development of the emirate and the state at large.
The council noted that the appointment takes immediate effect from the stated date.
“His Highness congratulates you and hopes that you will use your wealth of experience to contribute to the development of Kano Emirate and Kano State,” the letter read.
It further offered prayers for divine guidance, stating that Allah should guide the new titleholder in the discharge of his responsibilities.
