2027: We’ll Rescue Nigeria From Tinubu’s ‘Dangerous Precipice’ — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu of worsening Nigeria’s economic and security crisis, insisting that the opposition would step in to “reset” the country from what it described as a “dangerous precipice” created by the current administration.

The party alleged that worsening hunger, rising insecurity, business collapse and widespread public frustration have deepened hardship across the country.

It also raised concerns over figures from the APC presidential primary, which reportedly returned President Tinubu with 10.99 million votes ahead of the 2027 election.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the president’s recent remarks against the opposition as ironic and disconnected from the realities facing ordinary Nigerians.

Abdullahi said, “If the opposition is going to take the country backwards, it would be to reset it from the edge of the dangerous precipice that the current administration has placed it on, because to continue on the same trajectory is to plunge the country into the abyss.

“It is both ironic and tragic that a government under whose watch nearly 35 million Nigerians are now projected to face acute food insecurity in 2026 would accuse the opposition of lacking ideas or vision.”

The party said inflation had significantly weakened household incomes across the country.

It also said soaring food prices and worsening insecurity were placing severe pressure on millions of families.

According to the ADC, businesses were shutting down daily due to harsh economic conditions.

It added that many farmers could no longer access their farmlands safely because of banditry, kidnappings and violent attacks.

The opposition party also referenced reports projecting that about 34.7 million Nigerians could face severe food and nutrition insecurity during the 2026 lean season.

It said more than 2.3 million people remained displaced by violence and insecurity.

The ADC accused the president of responding with political attacks rather than empathy and accountability.

It said, “President Tinubu must understand that Nigerians are no longer interested in speeches or political grandstanding.

“Nigerians are asking simple questions: Why is food unaffordable? Why are businesses collapsing? Why are citizens increasingly unsafe? Why are more Nigerians falling into poverty despite endless promises of reform and recovery?”

The ADC said Nigerians already understood who was responsible for the country’s economic challenges.

It insisted that political rhetoric could not erase the reality of “daily suffering” across the country.

The party also questioned the outcome of the APC presidential primary, describing the reported 10.99 million votes for Tinubu as unbelievable in what it called a one-man contest.

Abdullahi said, “The ADC also finds it bizarre that President Tinubu was announced to have secured 10.99 million votes in the APC presidential primary.

“In a process designed for President Tinubu to contest against himself, one may be tempted to dismiss the figure as laughable if it were not recognisable for what it truly represents: a subtle attempt to set the stage and condition Nigerians for the kind of fantastic rigging being planned by the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.”

The party maintained that Nigeria could not continue on what it described as a disastrous path marked by economic decline, institutional weakness and growing hopelessness.

It said, “Nigerians deserve competent leadership, compassionate governance, and a government that understands that power exists to improve lives, not merely to retain control.”
