Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Ahmad Sani Yarima, has said Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari has the political experience and capacity to lead the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign to victory in the 2027 election.
Mr Yarima, who governed Zamfara State between 1999 and 2007, said Senator Yari’s appointment as director-general of the APC Presidential Campaign Council showed that President Bola Tinubu had chosen a politician with the requisite experience for the task.
A statement by Mr Yarima’s special assistant, Saifullahi Abubakar, said the former governor spoke in Gusau on Thursday on the sidelines of activities marking Zamfara State’s 30th anniversary.
Mr Yarima, a former three-term senator, attributed President Tinubu’s choice of Senator Yari to his “pragmatic leadership, team spirit, exposure and appeal to various critical stakeholders across the country.”
“Senator Yari is a pragmatist and goal-getter. I saw this 20 years ago when he led my re-election campaign in 2003. He is a shrewd and dynamic politician who deploys his energy, brain, time and resources to achieve set goals,” the statement quoted him as saying.
He said Senator Yari had built extensive political experience since 1999, serving as a party leader, lawmaker and two-term governor.
According to him, Mr Yari’s eight years as governor, alongside his experience in both chambers of the National Assembly, had helped him build contacts across the country.
“There is no gainsaying the fact that he is one of the most successful chairmen of the Nigerian Governors Forum. His charismatic leadership had endeared him to his colleagues.
“He understands both the political and governance structures of the country and how best to approach them,” Mr Yarima said.
The former governor described Senator Yari as a politician who had built relationships across ethnic, religious and regional lines.
He said President Tinubu’s decision to entrust the presidential campaign to Senator Yari reflected confidence in his political experience and organisational capacity.
“By entrusting the presidential re-election campaign to him, President Tinubu must have analysed and appreciated the qualities and competence of Senator Yari, and he should be rest assured that he will deploy human and material resources to ensure that he steers the campaign into an astounding victory in the January 2027 presidential elections,” Mr Yarima said.
Mr Yarima said he was also working to mobilise support for the campaign and pledged to work with Senator Yari to achieve the APC’s objective.
“Having known and worked with him for decades, it is easier for all of us to work with Senator Abdulaziz Yari in the 2027 APC campaign council to deliver victory for President Tinubu and our great party,” he said.
He added that Senator Yari’s organisational skills, energy and ability to work with others would be critical to the campaign.
Mr Yarima said he was confident that Senator Yari would deploy these qualities in organising and leading the APC campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
