Governor Seyi Makinde has assured families of abducted teachers and students in Oyo State that efforts are ongoing to secure their safe return.
The governor gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, and other Muslim faithful at his private residence in Ikolaba, Ibadan, during the Eid al-Adha celebration.
Makinde said his administration was working round the clock to ensure the victims are reunited with their families, urging those affected not to lose hope.
“We are making serious efforts to ensure that the children return safely to their families. To those currently in despair, God will meet them at their point of need,” he said.
He also expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and prayed for strength and comfort for those going through difficult times.
The abductions followed coordinated attacks on several schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where scores of pupils and teachers were taken.
Beyond the security situation, the governor called for unity and peaceful coexistence as the country approaches another political season, warning against attempts to exploit ethnic or religious differences.
“Oyo remains a tolerant and inclusive state. Political differences should not divide us, as government is temporary but the state and the nation remain,” he said.
Makinde emphasised that leaders and citizens alike must prioritise the collective interest of the state and the country over personal or political considerations.
Earlier, the deputy governor said the Eid visit symbolised unity, sacrifice, and togetherness, while commending the administration for sustaining religious harmony and inclusive governance.
Meanwhile, Muslim faithful gathered at the Agodi Eid praying ground in Ibadan for prayers led by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, AbdulGaniyy Agbotomokekere.
Special prayers were offered for peace, improved security, and the safe return of those abducted, with worshippers urging security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and restore calm to affected communities.
