Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has described the state’s 35-year journey as a testament to the resilience, determination and collective efforts of its people, as he congratulated Abians on the anniversary of the state’s creation.
Otti stated this in a post on his X handle on Thursday, August 27, 2026, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Abia State, titled “Abia and the Miracle of Resilience.”
The governor expressed gratitude to God for the blessings bestowed on the state over the past 35 years and urged residents to take pride in their contributions to its development.
“Umunnem ndi Abia, I come to you this morning with an elation of gratitude, thankful, firstly to the Almighty God for His blessings upon our land in the last 35 years,” Otti said.
He congratulated Abians on the anniversary, describing them as people united by a common heritage and defined by resilience and hope for a better future.
He said the state’s progress should not be viewed from a standpoint of vanity, but as an opportunity to build on its achievements and create a better future for generations to come.

“Our race is never about outrunning others, it is pushing ourselves harder each day, asking tough questions and refusing to settle for less than we deserve,” he said.
Otti also paid tribute to the late Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, who served as Abia’s first democratically elected governor, describing his contributions as foundational to the state’s development.
“The radiance of our dear State draws from the light lit by the brilliance of foresight and the prodigious intellect of our father, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, CON, who served as our first democratically-elected Governor,” he said.
The governor also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, Chief Theodore Orji and Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, to the state’s socio-economic and political development.
He said their efforts, alongside those of the military administrators who governed the state in its early years, deserved recognition.
Otti specifically acknowledged Air Vice Marshal Frank Ajobena, Brigadier General Chinyere Ike Nwosu, Commander Temi Ejoor, Colonel Moses Fasanya and Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Obi for their roles in maintaining peace and social stability and laying early infrastructure foundations.
He noted that while past leaders might not have been perfect, their efforts in building Abia as a political entity should not be overlooked.
“Like all of us, our past leaders may not have been perfect, but we must never lose sight of their efforts at building a political entity that answers to the aspirations of all who share in its heritage,” Otti said.
