Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday departed Abuja for Adamawa State ahead of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential primary election.
Atiku was seen boarding an aircraft with some of his aides as he headed to his home state for the crucial exercise.
The former Vice President is one of the major aspirants cleared by the ADC to contest for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Others cleared for the race are former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and economist, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Atiku’s movement to Adamawa comes after the state chapter of the ADC endorsed him as its preferred presidential candidate.
The Adamawa ADC said the endorsement followed consultations among party leaders, stakeholders and members across the state.
The party described Atiku as a leader with the experience and national reach needed to reposition Nigeria.
The ADC presidential primary is expected to determine who will fly the party’s flag in the 2027 presidential election.
The contest is being watched closely because of Atiku’s long-standing presidential ambition and the realignment of opposition forces ahead of the election.
The ADC had earlier appealed to aspirants, delegates and party members to conduct themselves peacefully during the primary.
The party said unity and discipline would be important as it prepares for the next general election.
Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is seeking another shot at the presidency under the ADC platform.
