Alleged Cyberbullying: Court denies Sowore’s adjournment request

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday rejected an application by activist Omoyele Sowore seeking an adjournment in his ongoing cyberbullying trial until after the court’s upcoming vacation.

Justice Mohammed Umar dismissed the request, made through Sowore’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, and ordered that the defendant enter his defence beginning June 5.

The judge also ruled that further hearings in the case will now be conducted day-to-day until conclusion.

Sowore is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly making false claims against President Bola Tinubu, referring to him as “a criminal” in posts shared on his X and Facebook accounts.

The trial continues as Sowore faces the cyberbullying-related charges, with the court insisting on adherence to the schedule set by Justice Umar.
