Five people have been taken into custody for alleged sexual and child abuse offenses, according to the Anambra State Police Command.
The accused have been probed and will face charges in court, according to a statement made by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.
One of the suspects is Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, a 46-year-old man who was charged with incest.
A case of incest involving a 20-year-old victim was moved from Oko Police Station on April 23, 2026, according to the statement. The 46-year-old male suspect, Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, is accused of having intercourse with the victim since she was 17 years old.
“The victim tested positive for HIV during a medical visit, which led to the case’s discovery. A confession has been made by the suspect.
In other cases, a female suspect named Eucharia Ezenwanne was accused of severely abusing two children, Echetuna Ezenwanne, age 6, and Chikaima Ezenwanne, age 4, using a wire to inflict damage.
The suspect claimed to have taken the kids from an Onitsha motherless babies’ shelter.
Additionally, on April 22, 2026, Ogbunike Police Division Headquarters sent a case of rape of a 16-year-old girl to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.
According to preliminary inquiry, the victim was allegedly attacked by the suspect, Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, a 26-year-old male security guard at the local estate, when she was en route to see a friend there.
He allegedly forced her into an unfinished building on the estate, where he had illicit carnal knowledge of her. The suspect has given a confessional statement in the interim.
Additionally, on April 23, 2026, the Operatives got a report from the Neni Police Divisional Headquarters regarding the defilement of an 11-year-old girl. The 36-year-old male suspect, Uchenna Muojama, is accused of luring the woman inside his Barbing saloon, where he coerced her into having unlawful sexual relations with him.
Additionally, the operators have received a medical report for the court proceedings.
The statement continued, “In a similar development, a case of defilement was transferred from Central Police Station Awka on April 21, 2025, where a 52-year-old male suspect, Chukwudi Nwayata, took advantage of an 11-year-old girl’s mental state, lured her to his house, and had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim.”
According to Ikenga, the instances were looked into by members of the Anambra State Police Command affiliated with the SCID.
The Special Court in Awka will arraign the five accused today, May 6, 2026.
According to the statement, “CP Ikioye Orutugu, Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, especially children, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice, describing the case as heinous and unacceptable.”
