The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes, with two suspected kidnappers and armed robbers killed during a gun battle along Eziowelle Road.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command said its operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acted on credible intelligence about the presence of suspected criminals along the road.

“On sighting the Police team, the hoodlums opened fire on them, leading to a gun duel,” Ikenga said.

He said two of the suspects sustained fatal gunshot injuries during the encounter, while other members of the gang fled the scene with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

According to him, the operatives recovered “one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing four live rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun and five live cartridges” from the scene.

The police spokesperson said the operation formed part of the Command’s renewed intelligence-led efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain proactive operations aimed at protecting residents and maintaining security across the state.

The Command said it had commenced further investigations and intensified efforts to track down the fleeing members of the gang.

“Further developments shall be communicated accordingly,” Ikenga added.
