An All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain in Oyo State and former Oluyole Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan has congratulated the Shooting Stars Sports Club, (3SC) on its qualification to represent Nigeria in the Confederation of African Football, (CAF) Confederation Cup Competition in the 2026/2027 Season.
It could be recalled that the darling Club of Ibadan and Oyo State, 3SC clinched the third position at the conclusion of the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday.
With its third position, 3SC will represent Nigeria in the continental competition next football season by participating in the CAF Confederation Cup Competition.
3SC last participated in the CAF organised tournament, CAF Championship Cup, during the government of Alhaji Lam Adesina in 1999.
Shooting Stars won the first continental cup for Nigeria by winning the African Winners Cup in 1976 during the reign of Oba Gbadamosi Akanbi Adebimpe as the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
In a statement issued and personally signed on Monday, Olaosebikan congratulated the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Arusa 1, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, (CCII), the Club Chairman , Mr
Taiwo Lekan Salami and all lovers of football and sports generally in Oyo State on the feat achieved by the 3SC.
Olaosebikan, a lover of Sports and Youths developments, said the reign of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Arusa 1 has restored the glory of the Ibadan’s darling team.
He said he recalled with nostalgia the blessing of the Olubadan at his Bodija residence on the players and management of 3SC shortly after he was announced as the new Imperial Majesty of Ibadanland
He said the Olubadan’s blessing has now turned around the fortune of the football team.
He congratulated the players, management, officials, and numerous supporters of 3SC on the laudable achievement, urging the team to continue to wax stronger.
Olaosebikan who was the Chief Press Secretary to the late Governor Lam Adesina said the team should utilize the qualification for the continental competition to bring greater glory and development to the growth of 3SC, soccer and sports generally in Oyo State.
He called on the Oyo State government to provide adequate funds for the success of the 3SC in the continental competition.
Olaosebikan further urges prominent well to do Indigenes and residents of Ibadan to assist the club with funds and other incentives for it to succeed in the CAF Confederation Cup Competition.
