Bad news for Shehbaz Sharif, Asim Munir as bankrupt Pakistan spends nearly multimillion dollar every month in Washington for…

Pakistan is spending close to $1 million every month on lobbying efforts in Washington, according to public records filed in the United States. The spending comes at a time when Pakistan’s military leadership has claimed that India sought US mediation for a ceasefire during Operation Sindoor.

Documents filed under the US Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) show that Islamabad spends around $10–12 million annually to strengthen its diplomatic outreach and address defence and trade-related issues.

Lobbying Costs Touch $900,000 Every Month

Foreign affairs expert Robinder Sachdev told ANI that Pakistan’s contracts with lobbying firms are aimed at securing access to senior US government officials. He said hiring lobbyists is common practice in Washington, but current FARA records indicate that Pakistan is spending nearly $900,000 every month on such activities. According to Sachdev, one contract worth $50,000 per month is focused on arranging meetings for Pakistan’s Interior Minister, while another firm is reportedly receiving $250,000 monthly to handle trade-related matters.

New $1.2 Million Contract Raises Eyebrows

Sachdev pointed out that a lobbying firm hired in October for $25,000 per month has now secured a much larger contract worth $1.2 million. He said the sharp increase suggests that Pakistan has significantly expanded its diplomatic efforts in Washington.

Munir’s Claims and Public Records

The disclosures have gained attention because they contrast with recent remarks made by Pakistan’s military chief, General Asim Munir, who was later promoted to Field Marshal. Speaking at a ceremony in Rawalpindi, Munir claimed that India had approached the United States for mediation during the recent military tensions and that Pakistan agreed to the proposal in the interest of regional peace. According to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, Munir said India expressed a desire for US mediation through American leadership.

What Do FARA Records Show?

However, lobbying records reviewed by ANI paint a different picture. The filings show that Pakistani representatives were actively meeting and engaging with US officials during the period of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Between May 6 and May 9, 2025, Pakistani agents reportedly logged nearly 60 interactions involving Capitol Hill, the Pentagon and the US Treasury Department.

Activity During Operation Sindoor

The lobbying activity coincided with Operation Sindoor, India’s military response following the Pahalgam terror attack. According to India’s Ministry of Defence, Indian forces carried out precision strikes on the night of May 6–7, 2025, targeting nine terror-linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The operation was launched in response to the Pahalgam attack.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Outreach Under Spotlight

The lobbying disclosures have drawn attention because they reveal extensive diplomatic engagement by Pakistan in Washington during a period of military escalation. According to the filings cited by ANI, Pakistani representatives were actively reaching out to key American institutions while public statements focused on mediation efforts and regional stability.

The records suggest that alongside its public messaging, Pakistan was investing significant resources in lobbying and diplomatic outreach in the United States.
