The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has cut its Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) from 26.5% to 23%, marking a 350-basis-point reduction at its September 2026 Monetary Policy Committee meeting.
The decision comes after the MPR had been held at 26.5% at the July meeting.
The latest move represents a significant shift in the CBN’s monetary policy stance, amid moderating inflation and relative stability in the foreign exchange market.
The August inflation rate stood at 15.39%, down from 15.43% in July, while the naira has maintained relative stability against the dollar.
More details on the MPC decisions, including CRR, liquidity ratio and the CBN’s rationale, are expected in the full communiqué.
