The Police Service Commission (PSC) has commenced a four-day data protection training for its staff and board members as part of efforts to strengthen data security and privacy within the commission.
The Comprehensive Data Protection Awareness Programme, which began on September 21 at the PSC headquarters in Abuja, was formally inaugurated by the commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd).
Speaking at the opening, Argungu stressed the importance of data security in modern policing and public administration, urging participants to use the training to improve the commission’s capacity to protect sensitive information.
He said the programme would help strengthen compliance with Nigeria’s data protection framework.
The training is being organised by Charistech Consulting Ltd., a licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisation, in partnership with the PSC.
The Chief Executive Officer of Charistech Consulting, Philip Aiwekhoe, said the training curriculum was aligned with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.
The programme focuses on regulatory compliance, risk mitigation and secure handling of personal and sensitive data.
The training runs from September 21 to 24, with a dedicated session for prospective Data Protection Officers scheduled for September 23.
According to the PSC, the programme is particularly designed for officials involved in sensitive operations and is expected to promote greater awareness of data security and privacy across the commission.
Facilitators said the initiative would also help reduce the risk of data breaches and strengthen organisational compliance with data protection requirements.
Officials of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) were present to observe the training.
