The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has received an award in recognition of its contributions to youth and women empowerment in Nigeria.
The award was presented at the Northeast Youth Idea Summit held on June 27, 2026. The summit brought together young innovators, development practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders from across the region.
According to the organisers, the award was presented in recognition of CITAD’s support for youth and women-focused initiatives in the Northeast.
Receiving the award on behalf of CITAD’s Executive Director, Y.Z. Ya’u, the Centre’s Campaign and Communications Officer, Ali Sabo, thanked the organisers for the recognition.
Ya’u said the award reflects the efforts of the young people, women, partners, and communities who have participated in and supported the organisation’s programmes over the years.
He said empowering young people remains important to development, adding that investment in youth and women can contribute to stronger and more inclusive communities.
“CITAD believes that when young people and women have access to skills, opportunities, and platforms, they can contribute to the development of their communities,” the statement said.
Ya’u noted that the organisation has implemented programmes on digital literacy, entrepreneurship, leadership development, digital rights, and civic engagement. He added that CITAD has also supported initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in technology, education, governance, and economic activities.
While thanking the organisers, he reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to creating more opportunities for young people and women, particularly in underserved communities.
“We see this award as both a recognition of previous efforts and a reminder of the work that remains to be done. CITAD will continue to work with partners and communities to support young people and women and expand access to opportunities that can improve their lives and livelihoods,” he said.
