A Niger State High Court sitting in Minna has sentenced a 27-year-old man, Hussaini Suleiman, to seven years in prison for raping an eight-year-old girl.

Justice Binta Bawa handed down the sentence after Suleiman pleaded guilty to the offence.

The case was referred to the Niger State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) by the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on April 16, 2026, following a report of the rape of the minor.

In a statement via its Instagram handle on Friday, September 11, NAPTIP said Suleiman was accused of raping the girl at his residence behind the Prison Quarters in Minna, Niger State.

The agency said the convict admitted to committing the offence and was subsequently arraigned before Court 8 of the Niger State High Court, Minna, on Thursday, September 10.

“Suleiman pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment,” NAPTIP said.

The conviction followed the referral of the case to the agency by the NSCDC, after which the matter was investigated and prosecuted before the state High Court.
