Some students of Cross River State University have blamed the recent death of three students to poor facilities at the General Hospital in Calabar.
The students made their position known during a protest in Calabar on Monday.
It would be recalled that a bus in which the students were travelling had a head-on collision with a truck along the Calabar-Itu Highway on Friday, leading to the death of the driver and three students of the university.
The students who went for a football game at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, were returning to Calabar when the incident occurred.
Protesting the incident, the students who bore placards with various inscriptions, blamed poor facilities at the hospital for the deaths.
The protest, however, took a violent turn when the students attacked personnel and hospital facilities.
They were however dispersed while taking the protest to the governor’s office, following the arrival of policemen.
One of the students, who identified herself as Martha Ikom, said after the crash, two of the deceased students were rushed to the general hospital, i5but died due to the absence of health personnel.
“The students were rejected because there were no personnel at the emergency unit; they died while being taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
“We are angry, and we are here to show our disapproval of this decay in public health facilities,” she said.
