The Federal Government of Nigeria has signalled plans to strengthen the N-Power programme by linking it with the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) loan scheme, as part of efforts to deepen impact under its social investment framework.
The disclosure was made during the South-South Media Sensitization and Outreach programme held at Ibom Hall in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, where stakeholders convened to drive awareness and strengthen implementation of GEEP 3.0. The exercise was coordinated by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
Speaking at the event, the Ag. National Programme Manager of N-Power, Dr. Nsikak Okon, emphasised the need to align both programmes for improved outcomes.
“It is imperative to underscore the synergy between N-Power and GEEP as complementary interventions under the broader social investment framework, aimed at equipping beneficiaries with both skills and financial support. While NPOWER would provide the needed skills in trades like agriculture, GEEP would complement by providing the financial resources in form of interest-free loans,” he said.
He further encouraged participants to take full advantage of the initiative, noting that engagement remains critical to achieving its objectives.
“I would like to encourage participants to actively engage in the sensitization process, ask questions, and take full advantage of the opportunities provided, while complementing government’s commitment to supporting farmers and driving inclusive economic growth in Nigeria,” Okon added.
The development points to a broader policy direction where beneficiaries of N-Power are expected to transition from skill acquisition into enterprise development through access to funding.
GEEP 3.0, the latest phase of the programme, is designed to provide financial support to small business owners and low-income Nigerians, including access to loans of up to N300,000 for agricultural activities.
