In Dokan Mai-Jama’a, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, a downpour has killed two people and destroyed over fifty homes.
Alhaji Hamisu Tukur, the village head of Dokan Mai-Jama’a, acknowledged the incident and stated that many people were displaced and extensive damage was caused by the storm.
According to Tukur, more than 50 homes were impacted, some of which were totally destroyed.
Locals reported that the intense downpour, which was accompanied by strong winds, began at approximately 6:41 p.m. on Monday and continued for over 40 minutes, causing significant damage.
Numerous families have been left homeless and are attempting to recover their possessions from the rubble, according to a writer who visited the region.
Some buildings had their roofs blown off, leaving their occupants vulnerable to severe weather, while others were totally demolished.
As they dealt with the disaster’s aftermath, heads of impacted homes were observed looking for temporary housing for their families.
The victims have requested immediate aid from the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Kaduna State Government.
Parts of the Sabon Gyero neighborhood were also impacted by the rainfall; over ten perimeter fences were broken and numerous houses sustained damage.
Significant losses were also reported at Sabon Gyero, which is situated in Millennium City in the Chikun Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the downpour caused traffic disruptions, stopped a key road, and made drivers look for alternate routes.
According to NAN, a team from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Kaduna has been sent to Dokan Mai-Jama’a to evaluate the damage and decide what has to be done.
