In early March, former Bayelsa governor Henry Seriake Dickson left the PDP to take the helm of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a decision that Senate President Akpabio revealed to a chuckling group of senators.
After years of delays, the party was officially formed by court order in February 2026. It claims 9.3 million digital sign-ups and currently has 2023 presidential hopefuls Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as members, which has sparked discussions about a combined ticket for 2027.
Umar Ardo is suing NDC over its registration procedure, but the party intends to submit its voter registration to INEC on May 6 in advance of a national convention.
