A Nigerian soldier has sparked reactions online after urging fellow security personnel not to use force against peaceful protesters.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the soldier appealed to officers to respect citizens’ right to protest and avoid attacking demonstrators.
“To my fellow Nigerian soldiers and personnel, please do not shoot or open tear gas on peaceful protesters. Let them exercise their civil rights. Even if an order is given, still make use of your brain.”
He questioned how security operatives would feel if their own loved ones were victims of insecurity while citizens were only demanding action through peaceful protests.
“How will you feel, or even sleep, if your children, wife, mother, father, or relative is one of the kidnap victims in the bush?”
Referencing the recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State, he noted that no parent would be at peace knowing their child or family member remained in the hands of abductors.
The video has since generated mixed reactions online. While many Nigerians praised the soldier for speaking out, others debated the role of security agencies during protests.
His comments continue to trend as discussions around insecurity, civil rights, and the conduct of security operatives gain attention online.
