A coalition of concerned stakeholders in Ejigbo Local Government has called on leaders of political parties in Osun State to zone the House of Representatives ticket for the Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency to Ejigbo, citing fairness and long-standing rotational culture.
The appeal was made at a press conference held in Ejigbo, where representatives of various groups including transport unions, youth organisations, artisans, market women and civil society bodies gathered to present what they tagged “unified position”.
In a statement on Monday, the coalition through Mr Mustapha Yusuf said the demand was rooted in equity and the need to sustain political harmony within the constituency.
He said, “Our purpose today is simple and sincere. We are driven by a deep sense of responsibility to our people and to the long-standing tradition that has helped maintain unity within our federal constituency.”
He explained that “although the rotation of the House of Representatives seat among the four local governments may not be formally codified, it has served as a stabilising political culture over the years.
“This understanding has promoted fairness, justice and peaceful co-existence. It has prevented unnecessary rivalry and strengthened unity among our people,” Yusuf added.
The coalition urged Ademola Adeleke and leaders of other political parties to consider Ejigbo for the next ticket, describing him as a leader committed to inclusiveness and fairness.
“We believe His Excellency is a listening leader who values justice. It is in that spirit that we respectfully appeal for Ejigbo to be considered. We also want the same from other leaders of political parties,” Yusuf said.
Highlighting political developments, the coalition noted that emerging indications of other parties favouring Ejigbo for key positions further strengthen their case.
“In light of current political realities, it will be strategically wise and inclusive for parties to consider Ejigbo for the House of Representatives ticket. Leaving Ejigbo out may create avoidable dissatisfaction,” Yusuf warned.
Chairman of the Motorcycle Riders’ Association in Ejigbo, Kareem Jimoh, echoed the appeal, stressing that the community deserved equal political opportunities.

“We are appealing to the governor to have mercy on us. This ticket belongs to Ejigbo by fairness, and we are asking for the same support others have enjoyed,” he said.
Jimoh cautioned that failure to address their demand could influence political loyalty in the area.
“If our request is not granted, it may lead to dissatisfaction, and people may reconsider their political alignment,” he added.
Similarly, a resident, Ifedioramma Moses, appealed directly to the current lawmaker, Bamidele Salaam, to support the zoning principle.
“We are appealing to him to return the ticket to Ejigbo so that we too can have a sense of belonging,” he said. “We also urge the governor to intervene and ensure fairness.”
The coalition, however, maintained that its position was not driven by hostility but by a desire for balance and inclusion.
“Our message is one of peaceful advocacy,” Yusuf said. “Justice strengthens peace, fairness sustains unity, and balance promotes stability.”
