Chelsea welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Stamford Bridge on Sunday for their first home Premier League fixture of the 2026–27 season.
The Blues have already played at home this campaign, defeating League One side Luton Town 2–0 in the second round of the Carabao Cup. The result set up a third-round meeting with historic rivals Leeds United.
Brighton, meanwhile, secured their place in the Conference League league phase with a 4–0 victory over Norwegian club Tromso. The Seagulls will make their second appearance in European competition after finishing eighth in the Premier League last season.
Fabian Hürzeler’s side also made an impressive start to their league campaign, thrashing Aston Villa 4–0. Brighton scored all four goals within the opening 30 minutes but could not add to their tally after the break, despite Villa being reduced to 10 men following João Gomes’ dismissal.
Chelsea ended the opening Premier League weekend with a 3–2 win away at Fulham, with their revamped attack making an immediate impact.

Chelsea vs Brighton Score Prediction
Chelsea face a difficult opponent in Brighton, having lost each of their last three meetings with the Seagulls.
Both teams will be encouraged by their respective starts to the season, although their approaches differ. Brighton showed considerable intensity without the ball against Villa, while Chelsea under Xabi Alonso have been more willing to surrender possession and rely on their attacking players in transition.
Chelsea’s attacking trio: The combination of Cole Palmer, João Pedro and Morgan Rogers has already generated excitement. Palmer and Pedro were particularly influential against Fulham, while Rogers also found the net. Their early understanding could make Chelsea a difficult side to contain if they remain fit.
Cole Palmer’s Brighton record: Palmer has enjoyed success against Brighton, contributing to five goals in previous Premier League meetings with the Seagulls. He scored four times in the first half of Chelsea’s 4–2 win over Brighton in September 2024.
Hosts’ clean-sheet woes: Chelsea’s attacking display against Fulham was encouraging, but defensive concerns remain. The Blues have gone 17 consecutive Premier League matches without keeping a clean sheet. Robert Sánchez is expected to retain his place in goal.
Prediction: Chelsea 3–1 Brighton
Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs Brighton
Alonso has confirmed there are no fitness concerns surrounding Levi Colwill and Geovany Quenda, who were left out of the squad for the midweek Carabao Cup fixture against Luton.
The Chelsea manager is also hopeful that Moisés Caicedo will return to midfield after missing the opening two matches because of an injury sustained in training.
Wesley Fofana is available again after completing his suspension, while Jordan Henderson and Marco Palestra remain sidelined with injuries. Palestra, like Caicedo, suffered his injury in training before the league opener against Fulham.
Enzo Fernández is unlikely to feature amid reported interest from Manchester City. Explaining his decision to leave the Argentine out against Luton, Alonso said: “We assess individually, collectively, what’s the best for the team, for tonight, what was better for other players that were playing, and we take the decision [to leave Fernández out].”
Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs Brighton (3-4-2-1): Sánchez; Acheampong, Lacroix, Colwill; Gusto, Caicedo, James, Hato; Palmer, Pedro, Rogers.
Brighton Predicted Lineup vs Chelsea
Brighton have several injury concerns heading into the fixture, with Jack Hinshelwood the latest addition to the list after picking up a knock in training.
Hinshelwood scored twice during Brighton’s 4–0 win over Aston Villa but is expected to miss the trip to Stamford Bridge. Hürzeler, however, has played down concerns over the severity of the injury.
The visitors are also without starting wingers Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh, while Georginio Rutter remains a doubt. Evan Ferguson is not expected to return until October because of an ankle injury.
Maxim De Cuyper impressed in an advanced role in Brighton’s previous match, while 19-year-old Charalampos Kostoulas is expected to lead the attack after scoring the opening goal in Thursday’s 4–0 win over Tromso.
Brighton Predicted Lineup vs Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Wieffer, Vušković, Dunk, Boscagli; Groß, Ayari; Osman, Gómez, De Cuyper; Kostoulas.
