Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest remain without a Premier League victory after playing out a goalless draw at the City Ground.
The result extended Spurs’ difficult start under Roberto de Zerbi, with the London club yet to win any of their opening three league matches despite spending more than £350 million during the summer transfer window.
Forest also remain without a win, although Oliver Glasner’s side showed enough resilience to suggest they are gradually finding their feet under their new manager.
Forest denied by controversial decision
The biggest talking point came in the second half when Neco Williams thought he had given Forest the lead.
Tottenham’s defence struggled to deal with Morgan Gibbs-White’s goalbound chip, with Micky van de Ven and Sandro Tonali both failing to clear the danger.
Williams eventually bundled the ball into the net, but the goal was disallowed after the defender was judged to have used his arm.
The decision angered the home supporters, who felt Forest had been denied a deserved breakthrough.
Glasner had also handed £50 million striker Liam Delap his home debut, but Forest remain without a goal in front of their supporters this season.
Spurs struggle to create chances
Tottenham’s attacking performance was a major concern, particularly given their significant investment in the squad.
Spurs failed to register a shot on target until the 81st minute, when Pedro Porro’s effort posed little threat to Matz Sels.
Micky van de Ven had earlier headed Tottenham’s best opportunity wide, while new arrivals Omar Marmoush and Savio were unable to provide the attacking spark De Zerbi wanted.
Marmoush did find himself through on goal but shot wide, although the move was later halted after he was penalised for a foul.
Savio was substituted after an hour as Tottenham struggled to turn possession into meaningful opportunities.
Richarlison, who scored 12 league goals last season, has also been left out of Tottenham’s Premier League squad and is expected to leave, increasing the pressure on the club’s new attacking options.
