Newcastle United came from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, with Jacob Ramsey’s late strike completing a comeback at St James’ Park.
Bournemouth appeared on course for their first Premier League victory under their new manager after building a two-goal advantage before half-time.
Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring after just nine minutes, reacting quickest after Nico’s effort was deflected to put the visitors ahead.
Alex Scott’s side then doubled their advantage in the 35th minute when Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw turned the ball into his own net.
The setback appeared to leave Newcastle in serious trouble, but the hosts responded almost immediately.
Barnes sparks Newcastle comeback
Harvey Barnes pulled one back just 101 seconds after Bournemouth had made it 2-0, curling a superb effort into the net to give Newcastle renewed hope.
The goal shifted the momentum of the contest, with the hosts becoming increasingly aggressive as they searched for an equaliser.
Bournemouth struggled to regain control and were forced deeper as Newcastle continued to apply pressure throughout the second half.
The visitors looked capable of holding on for three points, but their resistance finally broke in the closing stages.
Ramsey completes dramatic turnaround
Newcastle’s persistence was rewarded in the 88th minute when Ramsey kept his composure inside the area and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to level the contest.
The point extends Newcastle’s unbeaten start under new boss Jaissle, although the hosts will know they made life unnecessarily difficult for themselves after conceding twice in the opening 35 minutes.
For Bournemouth, the result will feel like another missed opportunity.
The Cherries have now surrendered late leads in three consecutive matches, with their wait for a first victory under Rose continuing.
The statistics also suggested that Bournemouth had created the better chances despite failing to win, recording an expected goals figure of 1.5 compared with Newcastle’s 0.66.
Both teams will now turn their attention to the EFL Cup. Newcastle travel to Millwall on Tuesday, while Bournemouth host Lincoln City on Wednesday.
