Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo, the former Deputy Governor of Kano State, has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Gwarzo made the announcement in a resignation letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the ADC in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State. In his letter, the former deputy governor stated that his resignation took immediate effect.
The decision, according to Gwarzo, followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with his political associates, supporters, and well-wishers across the state. He cited recent political developments and the evolving political landscape as key factors in his choice to reconsider his membership in the party.
“Recent political developments and the evolving political landscape have made it necessary for me to review my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and the nation,” Gwarzo stated in the letter.
He further explained that his resignation was driven by patriotic considerations and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with his ideals of good governance, democratic values, and sustainable development for Kano State.
“My decision is informed by patriotic considerations and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with my vision for good governance, democratic values, and sustainable development of our dear state,” Gwarzo added.
The former deputy governor also expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the ADC for their support during his time with the party. “I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the cooperation, respect, and support I received during my stay in the party,” he said.
Although Gwarzo did not reveal his next political move, his resignation is widely believed to be tied to the shifting political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
