The Former Minister for Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami has reacted to the emergence of Jamilu Gwamna as the consensus governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State.
Pantami rejected the “coronation” of a consensus candidate for the gubernatorial election in the state in a statement issued by Professor Suleiman Mohammed on behalf of supporters and members of the Pantamiyya Movement.
Mohammed said the former minister was away in Abuja and was not part of the process which led to the emergence of Gwamna and other candidates for different elective positions in the state.
He also raised concerns over the legality of such a process considering the fact that there cannot be a valid consensus without the involvement of aspirants who have obtained and submitted the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms.
He said, “We advise all our supporters to remain calm and law-abiding. However, the total disregard for the provisions of the law cannot be ignored by us.
Mohammed also cited Section 84 (2) of the Nigeria Electoral Act, 2026 which outlines the modes of nomination of candidates by political parties.
“The action is completely contrary to the provisions of the law, the directive of the National Party, and the instruction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
“We urge our supporters to get ready for direct primaries after addressing major challenges in the APC database in the state. Our legal team is also working on addressing the challenges and observations,” Mohammed said.
