The Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, on Friday, warned political actors against complacency ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that any expectation of an easy contest would be misguided.
The governor gave the caution at the Government House in Katsina while receiving his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to seek re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naijaonpoint reports that the forms were presented by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kankia, under a consensus arrangement adopted by the party in the state.
Radda, while addressing party stakeholders, emphasised that despite the unity displayed through the consensus process, the task ahead required diligence and sustained effort.
“This is not the time to relax; anyone who believes there will be no challenges in the coming elections is only deceiving himself,” the governor said.
He stressed that political actors must remain focused and proactive, warning that complacency could undermine the party’s chances at the polls.
The governor described the adoption of consensus candidacy as a demonstration of political maturity and unity among party members in the state.
However, he noted that such unity must go beyond internal agreements and reflect in stronger engagement with the electorate.
Radda urged candidates who emerged through the consensus process to return to their constituencies, reconcile with aggrieved aspirants, and rebuild trust at the grassroots.
According to him, sustained interaction with voters remains critical to electoral success.
The governor further advised party faithful to prioritise inclusiveness and responsiveness to the needs of the people.
He said reconnecting with constituents and addressing their concerns would play a decisive role in the outcome of the elections.
Radda also commended members of the consensus committees for conducting what he described as a smooth and credible process, adding that their efforts had helped strengthen unity within the party.
Earlier, the APC National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kankia, said the distribution of nomination forms was carried out in line with an agreed framework that ensured orderliness within the party.
“We have presented and distributed the forms in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere, unlike in some states where the process becomes chaotic,” he said.
Kankia added that reports from the Katsina and Funtua senatorial zones had been received, while that of the Daura zone was still being awaited.
