In honor of this year’s International Workers’ Day, the Federal Government has proclaimed Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday.
On behalf of the government, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made the announcement and congratulated Nigerian workers on the milestone.
On April 29, 2026, the minister commended workers nationwide for their diligence and commitment to national progress in a statement written by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary.
He urged Nigerian workers to continue upholding the ideals of patriotism, productivity, and dedication to duty, pointing out that their efforts are still essential to the country’s development and prosperity.
“The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1st, 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day,” the announcement said.
The Federal Government made this announcement through Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior. He thanked employees nationwide on the celebration this year. The Minister praised Nigerian laborers for their diligence and commitment to the country’s advancement. He pointed out that the development and prosperity of the country depend on their efforts.
Additionally, Tunji-Ojo reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to enhancing worker security and welfare and fostering an atmosphere that is favorable to economic expansion.
The minister called on Nigerians to use the occasion to consider the significance of unity and dedication in nation-building while wishing workers a successful celebration and urging them to continue being peaceful and law-abiding.
