FG Begins May N22,500 TVET Stipend Payment for Batch A Trainees

The Federal Government has commenced payment of the N22,500 stipend in May to Batch A (Cohort 1) trainees in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. Eligible trainees with a good attendance percentage on the portal qualify for the payment.

This comes after a Nigeria Startup News report highlighted threats by TVET trainees to hold a nationwide protest over the delayed stipend.

Registered Cohort 1 trainees who have been participating at their training centres with good attendance records are now receiving credit alerts of N22,500.

However, disappointed trainees expected the government to pay for two to three months at once since it is a six-month programme, especially as Cohort 2 training is set to commence.

Some trainees have received the stipend for the second or third time, while others are only just receiving the Batch A stipend for the first time.

The SMS notification reads:

The stipend payment began on May 6, 2026. Eligible trainees have confirmed receiving the payment.

Some reactions shared on social media include: “They have started sending stipends for TVET”, “TVET payment is ongoing”, and “I just received my TVET stipend”.

The disbursement is being made to trainees who have consistently attended their various training centres and successfully completed their biometric verification, including some with low attendance records. However, some trainees have also confirmed receiving payments without biometric verification.

Meanwhile, the Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, recently revealed that over 160,000 youths are currently undergoing training across more than 1,200 TVET centres, with over one million applications recorded.
