Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has declared a three days of mourning across the state in honour of the late Bamanga Tukur, former Governor of the defunct Gongola State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Fintiri also directed that all government flags across Adamawa State be flown at half-mast during the mourning period, following the death of the elder statesman on Saturday after a brief illness.
Tukur, who served as the third civilian governor of the defunct Gongola State, was also a prominent businessman and politician who contributed significantly to the political and economic development of Adamawa State and Nigeria.
In a condolence message by his chief press Secretary Homwashi Wonosiko, Fintiri described Tukur’s death as a monumental loss to Adamawa and Nigeria, praising his courage, foresight, patriotism and lifelong commitment to public service.
The governor said he would personally miss the late elder statesman’s wise counsel and wealth of experience, describing his death as a major loss that has left a significant vacuum in the state and the nation.
Fintiri condoled with Tukur’s family, friends, associates and the people of Adamawa State, urging them to draw strength from his legacy of service and leadership.
He prayed Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.
