A Ghana National Fire Service officer has won praise on social media after chasing down a moving trotro to confront a young woman who had thrown a sachet water wrapper onto the road, insisting she retrieve it before the vehicle could continue its journey.
According to accounts circulating with the footage, the officer spotted the woman discarding the plastic sachet from the moving vehicle and immediately pursued the trotro on foot, compelling the driver to stop so the passenger could disembark, pick up the litter, and dispose of it properly before being allowed back on board to continue her journey.
The incident, captured on a busy roadside near what appears to be an intersection in Accra, has drawn a wave of supportive reactions online, with many commending the officer’s proactive stance on environmental sanitation.
The exact location and identities of those involved have not been independently confirmed.
The moment comes as Ghana continues its two-day National General Cleaning Exercise, declared by President John Dramani Mahama for July 10 and 11, following deadly flooding in late June that authorities have partly attributed to indiscriminate littering and plastic waste blocking drains.
