A Nigerian doctor based in Canada has sparked widespread debate on social media after sharing his views on “body count” and whether a person’s past relationships should determine their suitability for marriage.
Speaking in a video, the doctor, identified as Dr. Zo, recounted a conversation he had with a Nigerian man living abroad who was considering calling off his engagement.
According to Dr. Zo, the man discovered that his fiancée had previously been involved with two men he knew back in Nigeria. The revelation reportedly bruised his ego, leaving him questioning whether to proceed with the marriage.
Sharing the advice he gave, Dr. Zo said he encouraged the man not to make a life-changing decision based solely on his fiancée’s romantic history.
“I told him, if I, Dr. Zo, were a woman, I would not have been married by anybody based on my body count from my university days,” he said.
He went on to argue that people with more life and relationship experiences can sometimes make better life partners than those with little or no dating experience.
According to him, what matters more is a person’s character, values, and how they treat others.
“I told him, if you think she is a good person, if her mum is good to her dad, go ahead and marry her. You will be surprised how that girl will turn out to be,” he added.
The doctor’s comments have since generated mixed reactions online. While some social media users agreed that a person’s past should not define their future, others argued that individuals are entitled to their own standards and preferences when choosing a life partner.
